Leticia Sánchez Toledo (Cabaiguán, Sancti Spíritus, Cuba) is a contemporary painter living and working in Miami. She received her degree in Design from the Instituto Superior de Diseño (ISDI) in Havana. Working primarily in oil and drawing, she creates figurative compositions centered on people in interior spaces and moments of vulnerability.

Her work emerges from the female experience and her personal history. She is interested in the psychology of objects, spaces, and people, as well as the underlying feeling a painting can hold. She thinks of her paintings as places occupied by people, raising questions about belonging.

Sánchez Toledo uses photography as a starting point for her paintings. She may conduct a photographic session in the home of someone she barely knows and then paint, alter, or erase elements while developing the composition. Drawing from memories, personal photographs, and cinematic images, she constructs her paintings as if writing a visual script. For her, painting is like revisiting a script that was never filmed: she returns to scenes left unresolved in memory and finally gives them an image. Her work reflects introspection, longing, and human connection, inviting viewers to inhabit it for a moment.

Sánchez Toledo recently presented her solo exhibition Docile Metals and Memory (2026) at The Annex Gallery in Cincinnati, Ohio. She has also exhibited at Pan American Art Projects and Galleria Ascaso in Miami, and at the Centro de Arte Tomás y Valiente (CEART) in Madrid. Her work has been included in exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Americas (MoCAA) in Miami and the Instituto Cervantes in São Paulo. She has participated in Pinta Miami, Palm Beach Modern + Contemporary, Art Miami, and Art on Paper in New York.

Her work is held in public and private collections, including the Coral Gables Museum, MoCAA, the Jorge Pérez Collection in Miami, and the Sara Vance Collection in Cincinnati. She has received grants from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation (2025) and the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation (2026), as well as an Honorable Mention from Innovate Grant, Spring 2026. She is currently participating in the 2026 Summer Open program at the Bakehouse Art Complex in Miami.
